Build A Generation (BAG)
The Meeker Build A
Generation Board consists of volunteer members from many
different segments of the Community whose goal is to reduce
risks and enhance protective factors for the Community's youth
ages 0 - 20. Board Members include community leaders, law
enforcement personnel, social services personnel, youth,
parents and other interested parties.
Meeker Build a Generation
is a coalition for the prevention of problem behaviors
affecting youth in the community by working in collaboration
toward finding preventative solutions.
Meeker BAG Mission
Statement:
“The purpose of
Meeker Build A Generation is to become a single, coordinated planning
body responsible for developing
and recommending
strategies that encourage long term positive youth development.
The coalition will
become knowledgeable in risk and protective factor prevention processes
and use that knowledge
as a basis for
making decision and coordinating the direction of local prevention
efforts.”
Meeker BAG became a coalition in 1998 and in
2000, initiated its first 3-year strategic prevention plan.

2005-2006 Outcome Highlights:

74% Decrease in discipline referrals
at Barone Middle School

88% Decrease in discipline referrals
at Meeker High School

58% Decrease in MHS students on
academic low/failing list

22% Decrease in number of youth
(6th-12th) engaging in at-risk behaviors including: alcohol/tobacco
use, academic failure, and delinquency

38% Increase in number of families
utilizing CET resources
2007 Initiatives:
-
Support COMMUNITY EVALUATION TEAM (CET);
a group of community agencies working together to provide
comprehensive services and resources to families in which youth are
engaged in high risk behaviors- especially substance abuse,
delinquency, and academic failure; Available resources include:
Medical/Psychological Evaluations, Drug Testing, Cessation Programs,
Anger Management, Parenting, Individual and Family Counseling,
Tutoring, Job Training, Nutrition, Medication, and Emergency Needs
Assistance

Partner with Meeker School District to
implement Tobacco Prevention Project that includes community tobacco
cessation initiatives, youth tobacco use ordinance and school
district policy implementation, and K-12 programs

Partner with Human Resource Council to
develop a Community Resource Directory and Needs Assessment

Support implementation of effective
programs and initiatives such as: Project Northland, Alive At 25,
Barone Buckaroos, After School Academic Intervention (K-12), Parent
Accountability Committees
2006-2007 BAG Funding and In
Kind Support: The Town of
Meeker serves as the fiscal agent for Meeker Build A Generation.
Although the Town does not provide cash resources for BAG projects, it
does provide 95% of the in kind support including; financial management,
reporting, and administration of funds; office and meeting space; day-to
day operational support and supplies; alternative activity volunteers

substance abuse prevention/reduction project
STEPP- State, Tobacco Prevention Project (in
partnership with Meeker School District)
Freeman Fairfield Trust- Local Foundation,
Matching funds for Drug Free Communities and primary fund for CET
Human Resource Council/United Way- Local,
Matching funds for Drug Free Communities/Resource Directory project
